1860s Italianate Victorian House Remodel Wakefield, MA
About This 1865 Italianate Victorian Whole House Remodel
A Whole House Remodel With Modern Design And A Nod To The Past
This Italianate Victorian in Wakefield, Massachusetts, was constructed in 1865. We gave it an update that honored its history while introducing modern functionality and amenities. The whole house renovation included a custom kitchen and primary suite filled with light and warmth, from the Carlisle hickory flooring to the Farrow and Ball Paint.
The owners of this home wanted to give their kitchen a significant upgrade. Our new kitchen features coffered ceilings, custom cabinetry, Carlisle hickory flooring, honed soapstone countertops, and custom-made wainscotting and molding. The island sports a hand-made walnut countertop. The appliance suite includes a Viking range and a SubZero refrigerator.
A key element of our whole house remodel was the conversion of the unfinished attic into a luxurious primary suite. To create the dramatic architectural feature of the space, we brought in reclaimed beams from an 1850 New Hampshire barn. We used eleven beams throughout the 1200-square-foot attic. The en suite features a carrara marble shower surround and radiant floor heating. The countertop on the island in the master closet is custom-made from repurposed flooring from 1865.
Staying true to the home's 1865 roots, we designed and built the new covered back entry to the custom-built mudroom. The new mudroom entry is seamlessly integrated into the existing home design. All of the primary suite doors were custom-made onsite.
This vintage home was renovated to include the contemporary amenities homeowners expect today. It is an exceptional example of a Victorian whole-house renovation.
