About This Craftsman Home Addition Project
A Three-Season Porch Becomes Usable Interior Space
This vintage residence is home to a teacher and a photographer. The couple was looking to add additional living space to their home using its existing footprint. Our solution was to tear down the louvered three-season porch and add a bump-out addition to the living area.
The addition includes a wall of windows to flood the space with natural light. The light wood floors give the new living area a warm and relaxing feel. The inviting space is perfect for sitting and reading a book or enjoying a bright sunny day. This craftsman home's addition kept to the home's original footprint and added the space the couple wanted, and we had the room to add a custom half bath and mudroom. We kept the powder room in the craftsman style with natural beadboard wainscotting.
The homeowners wanted a natural-looking, easy-to-maintain front entry to their home. We added a new overhang and entry porch. For low maintenance, we chose Ipe wood. It is a dense, durable wood that develops a beautiful patina over time. Perfect for this home.
This craftsman home addition demonstrates that increased living space does not require sacrificing your home's vintage character.
